Bus Service Guidelines
In accordance with state transportation guidelines, Splendora ISD does not provide bus transportation for students residing within a two-mile radius of their assigned residential neighborhood school, such as Greenleaf Elementary, Splendora Junior High, or Timber Lakes Elementary. Families living within this boundary are responsible for arranging transportation.
Splendora ISD uses Transfinder, a school bus routing software, to create designated bus stops. Walk distances are set at:
- Up to 3/10 of a mile for elementary students
- Up to 5/10 of a mile for the Coleman 6th-Grade Campus, Splendora Junior High, and Splendora High School students
For time and cost efficiency, buses cannot travel every road within the district, so some bus stops may be farther than the walk-to-stop guideline. Whenever a bus travels the same road twice, we install a bus stop to prevent students from crossing in front of the bus. Please be aware that students may arrive home sooner or board the bus later; however, we do not want to deviate from this practice for the sake of our students' safety.
We ask that students arrive at their bus stop five minutes before the scheduled time to avoid missing the bus. Parents are responsible for their child's travel between home and the designated stop. Please note that inclement weather or traffic congestion may cause routes to run later than usual.
If you have questions or concerns, please contact the Splendora ISD Transportation Department at 281-689-4322.
Annual Transportation Services Registration
Help us plan safe and accurate bus routes for the upcoming school year. Submit a Transportation Registration Form for each student in your household who needs bus service to or from school.
To ensure your child is assigned to the correct route, please provide complete and accurate information. We ask that families submit these requests as early as possible so that our transportation team has adequate time to plan routes. After your registration has been submitted, it may take up to 48 business hours for your student's transportation information to appear in Skyward Family Access.
We use Transfinder, a cutting-edge routing software, to craft designated bus stops. Travel distances are set at 3/10 of a mile for elementary students and 5/10 of a mile for junior high and high school students. This calculation is based on the distance from the end of the student's driveway to the designated bus stop. While we strive to accommodate all routes, for efficiency, we may only be able to service some roads in our district, which means some designated bus stops may be slightly farther than the walk-to-stop criteria allow.
Some buses are equipped with seatbelts. If your child chooses not to wear the seatbelt, the bus driver will send a referral form to the campus, and your child may face consequences, up to and including suspension of bus services.
-
One of our primary goals in the Transportation Department is child safety; therefore, students should not go anywhere other than their regular bus stop. Any child not going home on their regular bus will need a yellow transfer slip from the campus office. The yellow slip will be verified by the office personnel as being an emergency before it is approved. If the information is approved, the yellow slip must include the physical address where the student is to be dropped off and the date.
School transportation is provided to transport students from school to home. Any other arrangements are the parents' responsibility, not the school's; this includes transportation to parties, practices, or meetings. Transfer slips should only be issued in an emergency. Thank you for your cooperation in helping us to keep our children safe. If you have any questions or concerns, contact the secretary at (281) 689-4322.

Updated August 19, 2025
The After-School Activities Bus is for 7th-12th-grade students who stay after school for clubs, AFJROTC, or athletics. Beginning August 26, 2025, buses are expected to start loading at the junior high and high school at 5:00 pm.
Bus stops for after-school activities are not normal bus stops. The bus stops are limited to a neighborhood group stop. Students must be registered to be dropped off at the neighborhood bus stop. Contact the Transportation Department to receive bus stop location information. Bus stop times may vary due to fluctuations in ridership, traffic, and other unforeseen incidents along the route.

Route numbers and bus stop information are updated within 24 hours of registration in Skyward Family Access. If the information does not appear, contact Transportation Dispatch at (281) 689-4322.
-
Routes are designed to operate safely and efficiently while meeting student needs. Parents are notified of changes to pickup and drop-off times, stop locations, or route numbers via email or district messaging through ParentSquare.
Bus stops are located centrally to safely serve multiple students and reduce ride time. Buses do not travel down dead-end streets or roads without safe turnarounds. Construction zones may temporarily increase walking distances.
Walking distances:
• Elementary (PK–5): up to 0.3 miles
• Secondary (6–12): up to 0.5 miles -
Students should arrive at their stop 5 minutes early and wait up to 10 minutes beyond the scheduled pickup time. If the bus has not arrived, contact Transportation Dispatch at (281) 689-4322 with the bus number, campus, student name/ID, and stop location.
-
The student will be returned to the Transportation Facility for parent pickup. If this happens more than once, or the child is not picked up by 6:00 p.m., Splendora ISD Police may be notified. Authorized contacts must be updated through the campus.
-
Contact the campus first to confirm the student has been dismissed. If the student is not on campus, call Transportation Dispatch at (281) 689-4322.
-
No. Students cannot be released from a breakdown location for safety reasons. District personnel must be allowed to manage the situation, and families should wait for official communication through ParentSquare. Students may only be released at their assigned bus stop. Going to the scene or repeatedly calling dispatch delays resolution and can create additional safety hazards.

Students living at least 2 miles from the nearest access point qualify for transportation services. Students facing hazardous walking conditions may also be eligible, including:
• Crossing train tracks
• Crossing a freeway
• Crossing a four-lane or higher roadway with a 40+ mph speed limit and no traffic control
• Walking along a roadway with a 40+ mph speed limit without a designated walk path. A walk path does not require a paved sidewalk. -
The State of Texas establishes the distance for transportation reimbursement.
-
Buses operate when school is in session. During heavy rain or flooding, buses will get as close as safely possible to stops. If a stop is inaccessible, students may be returned to their campus or to the Transportation Facility for parent pickup.
-
Bus capacity is based on standard passenger guidelines:
• Elementary: up to three students per seat
• Secondary: typically two per seat
Although buses may feel crowded, they are not over capacity. The district aims to fully utilize available seating. -
Yes. All route buses have air conditioning. Older buses have two AC units; newer buses have three. Frequent door openings may affect the temperature inside the bus. Students are encouraged to bring water and dress appropriately for warm weather.
-
Items must fit in the student’s lap. Oversized items, large instruments, or anything requiring another seat are not permitted.
-
Submit a request to your campus in accordance with campus procedures. The campus will issue a yellow authorization slip for the bus driver.
-
School buses use a safety system called compartmentalization. High-back, padded seats placed no more than 24 inches apart absorb impact and protect students in sudden stops or collisions, per federal safety regulations.
-
Please contact your child’s campus to ensure that your contact information is correct. ParentSquare notifications are sent using the information listed in your child’s Skyward Family Access account.
