Peggy Welch Davis was born in Nacogdoches, Texas. She is the youngest of the eight children of John and Lela Bird Welch. Her family moved to Splendora just before she began third grade. It was then that Peggy became a Splendora Wildcat. While attending Splendora High School, Peggy participated in basketball, volleyball, and softball. She served as Co-Editor of the school yearbook and the school newspaper, The Wildcat Purrs. Peggy was a drum major and head twirler, and voted Class Favorite and FFA Sweetheart. She has many fond memories of Splendora ISD employees, including Mr. Jess Jiles, Mrs. Edith Reed, and Mrs. Dalpha Bowley, whom Peggy said were one of her favorite teachers. During her younger years in Splendora, she met the man who would later become her high school sweetheart and husband of 62 years, Robert “Bobby” Davis. Together, they raised three children who would also become Splendora High School alumni, Robert, Cathy, and Vicki. Peggy was Splendora’s first City Secretary and served the citizens and the City in that position for 39 years.
What does it mean to be a Wildcat? “Being a Splendora Wildcat means you have pride in your school and community. A Wildcat makes friends and keeps them for a lifetime. Your pride and school spirit are exhibited in everything you do. The respect you develop for your teachers, friends, and community never fades as a Wildcat. Thus, that pride lives on forever.” - Peggy Davis
