Darla Coleman Baker, is deeply rooted in Splendora's history. Her family's legacy is woven into the fabric of the community, with her grandfather, Albert Collins, serving as one of the original Splendora ISD Board of Trustees. Her departed mother, Alba Coleman, dedicated three decades to Splendora ISD before retiring, and her sister-in-law, Linda Coleman, contributed significantly as a Board of Trustee for many years. Even Darla's late brother, David Coleman, played a pivotal role in constructing the current junior high campus.
A proud 1983 Splendora High School graduate, Darla's childhood memories include playing little league softball where the Splendora Post Office now stands. Her passion for sports persisted in high school, earning her numerous accolades in both volleyball, basketball, and track. After graduation, Darla initially worked at a shipping and receiving company before joining Splendora ISD in 1999. Starting as a classroom paraprofessional, she swiftly ascended to the role of campus secretary within her first year. Over the next decade, Darla's dedication saw her rise to the position of Director of Purchasing. This December, she will retire with an impressive 24 years of service. Family is always the heart of Darla's life, as she is married to Ricky Baker, and they share a daughter, Kayla Baker, a 2009 Splendora High School graduate.
When asked what does it mean to be a Wildcat, Darla said, “My family history runs deep in Splendora, so you understand why the word ‘Wildcat’ is not merely a word, but a cherished part of my family's roots. Being a Wildcat to me has evolved over time. Now, I am more about making a difference for future little Cats!”
