Gwynn Teal Carpenter is a 1969 Splendora High School graduate. Gwynn was also the salutatorian of the class of 43
students. She played basketball from 7th grade until she graduated, where she was captain and all-district for two years. Gwynn continued her love for basketball at Ouachita Baptist University, playing on the team ranked second in the nation. (This was prior to Title IX— the amendment that allowed equal participation in sports.) After receiving her Bachelor of Education degree, she began teaching/coaching at New Caney Junior High and continued to coach until 1994 throughout Texas at various school districts. During this time, she also obtained her Master of Education degree from Stephen F. Austin University in 1980 with a Supervisory in Education and Mid-Management. She began her second career as a realtor in Austin in 1994. In 1998, she opened a small brokerage firm, Home and Hearth Realty, Inc., that is still in business today.
What does it mean to be a SHS Wildcat? “Being a Wildcat means always having friends wherever you land in life - close-knit times back in the 60s era means that you can call on someone that you knew back then and take up a conversation as though no time has passed.”
